Sydney Harfenist

Undergraduate Student: Biobehavioral Health, minoring in Neuroscience

Biography:

My name is Sydney Harfenist, I am a sophomore here at Penn State. I am majoring in Biobehavioral Health, and minoring in Neuroscience, hoping to pursue a career as a Physician's Assistant. I am from New York, about thirty minutes outside of New York City.

Project Summary:

This upcoming summer I am happy to say that I will be traveling to Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Here, I will be working in Dr. Sharon Unsworth’s lab, researching syntactic priming tendencies in bilingual children, that speak both Dutch and English. Throughout this research, I will decipher if a child that is more proficient in one language will be more likely to use pre or post synaptic priming tendencies, based on a term that they just heard. We will conduct a series of different activities to evaluate the children's abilities, including picture naming, and priming tasks. I am really looking forward to this amazing experience to conduct this research, and I am eager to see the conclusions!
