Undergraduate Student: Linguistics and Psychology, minoring in Chinese

Biography:

I am from State College, PA. I grew up right next to Penn State and grew up in a bilingual family. I developed a fascination with languages in middle school when I began studying French. I spent my senior year of high school abroad in China where I learned to speak Mandarin as well. Before going to college, I did a gap year, in which I worked for eight months and went backpacking abroad for four months. I'm currently in my second year of my undergraduate degree, studying psychology and linguistics.

Project Summary:

My project involves studying the effects that background noise has on comprehension of second language speech in various accents. This research may provide very practical knowledge regarding language in noise, as most communication in the real world happens in noisy environments.
