Gregory Costanzo

Undergraduate Student: Linguistics and Psychology, minoring in Chinese

Biography:

I am from State College, PA. I grew up right next to Penn State and grew up in a bilingual family. I developed a fascination with languages in middle school when I began studying French. I spent my senior year of high school abroad in China where I learned to speak Mandarin as well. Before going to college, I did a gap year before beginning college, in which I worked for eight months and went backpacking abroad for four.

Project Summary:

My project involves going to San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia, where I will be testing whether or not younger L2 creole speakers can properly form phrases with the future tense and with plural nouns. If they are unable to do so, we will know more about what creole education in the community can focus on to improve proficiency.
