Undergraduate Student: Elementary and Childhood Education;

minoring in Spanish, Special Education, and Deafness and Hearing Studies

Biography:

I am majoring in Elementary and Childhood Education and I am pursuing triple minors in Spanish, special education, and Deafness and hearing studies. I am fluent in Spanish and English, and I am currently learning American Sign Language. I have a particular interest in multilingual and multicultural classrooms, as well as inclusion, and accessible curriculums. I am passionate about world literacy and help to facilitate a philanthropic recognized student organization at Penn State called "Educate Today, Thrive Tomorrow." We partner with BuildOn which is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization. I also help to facilitate a spiritual organization on campus called the "Vedic Society," together we enjoy practicing meditation and yoga.

Project Summary:

This summer I will be traveling to Granada, Spain. My research focuses on English speakers who are learning Spanish as a second language. I plan to look at participants who have been immersed in the Spanish language, i.e. Spain, short term (a semester or less) and long term (a year or more) and compare the grammatical structure of their sentences to the patterns of syntax seen in native Spanish speakers.
