Biography:

My name is Dorothy and I am a junior at Penn State. I am majoring in Spanish with a minor in Labor and Employment Relations. I plan to attend graduate school to get a degree in Human Resources and hope to get a job where I can continue to use my Spanish skills in the HR field. I have been working under the supervision of Dr. John Lipski since Fall 2015, and will be traveling to San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia to conduct field research on the creole language of Lengua Palenquera. Specifically I will be looking at a unique feature of the language: clause-final negation. My research project will focus on how efficiently clause-final negation is processed in L2 learners. After collecting data in Colombia, I will be traveling to Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands to analyze my data under the supervision of Dr. Pieter Muysken. I am very thankful for this opportunity that PIRE has awarded me with.
