Both our faculty and international partners are at the leading edge of language and learning sciences, with a diversity of perspectives, including linguistics, psycholinguistics, cognitive neuroscience, and speech pathology. Through the current PIRE, we intend to bring brain science to the classroom for children and older learners, investigate diverse language learning environments, and examine the consequences of bilingualism across the lifespan for education and health. This new research direction will increase diversity and impact by bringing language science from the laboratory to practice and by integrating field research with experimentation to provide new data on endangered languages, populations with limited literacy, and the consequences of language contact.
