Biography:

Eli is a junior studying computer science and Spanish. Ever since his exposure to Spanish and German in school, Eli has had a budding fascination with language. He is especially interested in computational linguistics and its practical applications through natural language processing. In his free time, Eli likes to swim, play crossword puzzles, and do stand-up.
Project Summary:
Eli's project focuses on studying the asymmetries that arise in L1 Spanish-L2 English speakers' perception of certain vowels endemic to English. The study will be conducted in Mexico City, and will utilize lexical decision tasks, discrimination tests, and computational modeling to hopefully gain further insight into sounds that native Spanish speakers struggle with when learning English.
