Biography:
I’m a junior majoring in Linguistics and Japanese. I was born and raised in Shanghai, China. I’m proud of where I am from and love the culture of the city. Other than Mandarin and English, I also speak Shanghainese and Japanese.
Project Summary:
My project is about exploring the Mandarin influence on Shanghainese. Since Mandarin involved into Shanghainese people’s life, the language environment in Shanghai has also changed thoroughly. I will be focusing on comparing the pronunciation differences of Shanghainese words elicited from younger generation with the ones elicited from older generation and try to explore the social reasons for resulting in those changes.
