Biography:

Biography: My name is Lina Ruth Duiker. I am a freshman at Penn State majoring in Philosophy and Spanish and minoring in Women's Studies. I hope to continue my education in law school, and then get a job either as an immigration lawyer, or a Child Protection Advocate. I am involved in Alliance Christian Fellowship, and Mock Trial at Penn State. I also enjoy helping out at my old youth group as a leader, and working at Dolce Vida Desserts in Lemont.  I will be traveling first to Palenque, Columbia to collect data, and then I will be traveling to Raboud Univesrity in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, to analyze the data with the help of Peter Muiski and his group of creolists. I will be studying the differences that might be caused in heritage speakers that get formal education in the heritage language, versus whether they do not receive that formal education.  Institution: Pennsylvania State University, USA Lab/Group: Center for Language Science
