Biography:

My name is Rachel Painter and I'm a third year undergraduate student studying Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Special Education. I plan to attend graduate school to pursue my masters in Speech Language Pathology. I love working with kiddos and learning about their amazing capabilities to learn and produce language. I have been working in Dr. Karen Miller and Dr. Cynthia Lukyanenko's Child Language Acquisition Lab since the Spring of 2015. I have enjoyed participating in a variety of studies and projects focusing on variation in child and adult speech. Learning from other lab members has been a truly rewarding experience that has aided in my growth as a student and in my academics. This summer I will be in Granada, Spain conducting a study on Variable Clitic Placement in Andalusian Spanish speakers and L2 speakers. I will be facilitating a Memory Repetition Task and an Elicitation Task to learn if L2 speakers of Andalusian Spanish show the same variable pattern as native speakers. In my free time I enjoy spending my time with my family, friends, and my two furbabies Kerry and Boaz. I have always enjoyed travel and am so fortunate to combine my passion for language and exploring new cultures in this experience. Thank you to PIRE for this opportunity and to my fellow lab members for all of your mentoring.
