Biography:
My name is Rebecca Barnes and I live in Bear Creek, Pennsylvania. I am a freshman majoring in Economics and French. I will be going to Granada, Spain in the summer of 2016 to conduct experiments on how Spanish bilinguals predict code switches in a sentence. This concept is based off of a previous study in which it was found that experienced code switchers can use certain phonetic cues to predict a language change. The experiments I have been conducting at Penn State and will be conducting in Granada, however, involve bilinguals who have little to no experience in code switching. I use the eye tracker to ascertain whether or not they too can hear phonetic cues and use them to predict a code switch.
