Biography:
Hello, my name is Xavier Harrison. I am an undergraduate student looking to major in
Linguistics and Spanish. I am from the wonderful city of Chicago, Illinois. I have always
had an affinity towards learning more about languages and cultures of the world. I had a
specific interest in the Spanish language and Latinx cultures. This had led me to be
interested to do international research with the PIRE program.
Project Summary
I will be conducting research in my research on Spanish pronoun clitic placement and
pronunciation variation in Mexico City. With advisors Dr. Karen Miller and Dr. Natalia
Arias-Trejo, we will be looking to if Mexican-Spanish speakers favor proclisis or enclisis
for various verb phrases. Moreover, we will see phonological processes of native
speakers of Mexican Spanish. This could be seen through examples like the common
aspiration /s/ and more nuanced influences from the Indigenous Mayan languages
spoken throughout the country.
